Amenable Amenity

Reclaiming the golf course as a site of ecological repair, this project reimagines amenity beyond exclusivity, ownership, and artificial control.

Server, Served

Research Notes
Tourism is read as a system of image production: a coordination of transport, accommodation, promotion, film, and cultural iconography that made Hawai‘i legible as a destination. The research asks how hospitality at scale might move beyond imported fantasy toward locally specific, community-driven forms of development.

2021, O'ahu Hawai'i
This project begins with the transformation of land into landscape, and follows that logic into the golf course as a terrain of artificiality, wetland denial, and social exclusion. Reclamation is approached not as restoration to a fixed past, but as a catalytic process of stripping back, excavating, and participating in ecological change.

2023, Hudson Valley, NY
Fine dining is treated as a choreography of visibility and disappearance. Drawing from the rituals of service, costume, gesture, and the power-lunch interior, the project pushes BOH labor outward, turning facade into spectacle and making the social performance of affluence visible in public space.

2022, New York City, NY

The Teatro Cine Jandaia is a cinema in decay. After sixty years hosting film screenings, circus performances, beauty contests, and political meetings, it closed its doors.

A new openness formed. The weather acts upon the teatro in a choreography of breaking enclosure.

The oleo scrim is a device for narrative rupture. As intervention in the Teatro Cine Jandaia, the scrim is not a veil of printed or projected image, but a plane that life may directly inhabit.

A PLACE TO BE
IN THE WEATHER,
AS THE WEATHER

Christina Sharpe writes of the weather as the pervasive condition of antiblackness: not a singular event, but an atmosphere that continues to produce new ecologies. (1) In this project, weather is not treated as background or metaphor, but as an active force acting upon the theater, breaking enclosure, opening the building to sky, seed, moisture, and return.

But we might pause within this entropy, not for leisure but for rest, and to know, not to construct narratives but to escape them.

In this pause, we might experience the sensing of the weather, perceiving not just our place as a part of it, but also our affect within it.

The sail moves through the project as a device of violence, propulsion, leisure, and social performance. From slave ships to recreational sailing, it carries the false narrative of outward progress. In its rupture and recapitulation, another movement becomes possible: not expansion, but rest.
